Stretch Mark Improvement

Stretch marks are unsightly micro-tears that develop when the skin has been rapidly stretched, causing fracturing of the fibrous structure of the skin. Fortunately, the appearance of stretch marks can be minimized and improved with proper treatment.

Stretch marks occur commonly occur during periods of rapid growth, weight gain and loss, pregnancy, and even weight training. In their initial phase, stretch marks can be reddish or purplish due to inflammation and the increased presence of blood vessels in the recently damaged skin. Over time, the blood vessels fade and the inflammatory response subsides, leaving whitish or silvery permanent lines of scarring.

The discoloration of red or purple stretch marks can frequently be ablated (removed), greatly improving the appearance. This can be done with the use of either a vascular laser treatment, or using intense pulse light (IPL).

Lumecca offers excellent IPL reduction in the red and purple marks. Treating stretch marks while in the red/purple phase and stimulating new collagen production may help prevent progression into white/silvery marks.

Older, more mature stretch marks that have turned whitish/silvery are best treated by lasers or radio frequency technology which optimize collagen production Rose Dermatology uses the Fractora fractional RF device to stimulate collagen and provide smoothing to the skin surface, further enhancing and improving appearance.

Micro-Needling is a safe, defective non-laser treatment that accelerates tour skin’s production of collagen, resulting in a newer, refreshed, more elastic skin texture. This procedure can help in softening the appearance of stretch marks.
