Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin disease that presents with redness, swelling, and pimples on the nose, cheek, chin, and forehead. If untreated, the condition can worsen. Experts are not sure what causes rosacea. However, it is known that flare-ups of symptoms seem to be caused by triggers, such as exercise, sun exposure, alcohol, certain foods, and even use of skin care products.

Oral and topical medications can be prescribed to treat rosacea. There is no known cure for rosacea, but with treatment and avoidance of triggers, symptoms can be controlled and the disease can be kept from worsening.

Some of the symptoms of rosacea can be treated with laser therapy. Lasers can be effective in achieving long-term results for redness, dilated blood vessels, and skin thickening.

Likewise, laser therapy can also be used for treatment of Rhynophyma, an uncommon form of Rosacea.

An effective alternative to laser therapy for treatment of Rosacea symptoms is intense pulse light therapy (IPL). Lumecca is one of the most advanced broad-spectrum intense pulsed light systems that harnesses the full power of an IPL photofacial in the treatment of Rosacea, sun damage spots, age spots, redness, excessive blood vessels, and freckles, and other skin discolorations.

Currently, laser and IPL therapy for rosacea is not covered by most insurance plans.
